The setting is rural Michigan, in an open field on a clear day. The two wanted to be married but were worried because they each carried heavy baggage into the relationship.
Divorces.
Affairs.
Random sexual encounters.
Abortions.
The kind of stuff that leaves lasting wounds.
After the simple ceremony, they walked out into the clearing, each with a cluster of balloons in hand. Those balloons, to them, represented their mistakes, their pain, their past. They let go of the balloons in a simple act of surrender.
This weekend, Pastor Todd talked about how God wants us to let go of our past, explaining that God is waiting to forgive us no matter how many mess-ups we've had.
He just wants us to let go of the balloons.
So, we let go of some balloons and we heard some pretty cool stories.
Check out the video below, and leave a comment to let us know your balloon story!
The big idea for this post was taken from Rob Bell's book "Sex God".

thanks next level for making it real to me!!
That is a look and feel I will long remember.
Very cool...
Thanks for taking the time to capture this moment. It makes it seem much more alive.
NLC is awesome.
WOW... just being there and watching the balloons soar in the air was awesome. Knowing that each one of those balloons represented things in our past that God wants and needs for us to let go. Thanks so much for being here when I needed Christ the most. God bless!!!
