Hated cancelling church. Hated it, hated it, hated it. Made my stomach turn.
But let me tell you why we did it.
1. We really had no choice if we wanted to be responsible. Our campus is not exactly on a main road and it would quite simply have been dangerous to be driving on Stevens Mill or Oak Spring or Stallings Roads this morning. We value YOU more than that. Nearly half of our people drive 11-20 minutes to get to NLC - just too treacherous.
2. We thought long and hard about one combined service at 11. But at 11, the melting was not complete enough and I breathed a sigh of relief that we had held off.
3. Many of our key leaders reported that they could not get out of their neighborhoods or even driveways. We figured if THEY were facing this then many others were too.
3. This teaching series - Call of Duty - is TOO IMPORTANT and too dead on for your disconnected friends to have a Sunday where NLC people were anything other than perfectly set up to bring friends, family, and co-workers. We have worked incredibly hard to insure that your disconnected friends can come to Call of Duty and hear the Gospel presented clearly and compellingly.
So, we decided to stay safe, be responsible, hit the reset button and make sure that we are fresh and ready to go for Life Group Kickoff Weekend (next Sunday) and then the relaunch of Call of Duty.
Now, PLEASE READ BELOW...
Our decision also meant that we missed a badly needed offering - the kind of offering at this time of year that we need just to operate on a reduced budget.
If you are a NLC person, please consider this:
WE NEED YOU TO GIVE SACRIFICIALLY THIS WEEK TO MAKE UP FOR OUR MISSING A SUNDAY. PLEASE GIVE ONLINE IF YOU CAN.
As a young church that reaches significant numbers of folks who have not developed habits of sacrificial giving (221 people received Jesus Christ for the FIRST TIME last year!) we don't have margin and reserves. Missing an entire week is a tremendous challenge to us financially.
You always come through and I know you will this time!
Hope you enjoyed the day. It was a reminder to me that sometimes God says "stop - there are way bigger things in the world than you and what you are doing!". Hope it was a day of fun, family, relaxation, and friends!
We'll see you next Sunday for Life Group Kickoff!
