"Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you" - Deuteronomy 31:8
God spoke these words to the Israelites at the moment their great leader, Moses, was passing from the scene and his place was being taken by a young guy, Joshua. In addition to the trauma of a leadership change, the people were being asked to make one of the boldest moves of their lives - to cross the Jordan River and inherit their Promised Land, in the face of opposition and danger.
The exact quote above is repeated twice in the span of three verses, so it must be important!
God is saying this: "Look, if I have called you to go somewhere, I am already there. And since I am there, why in the world would you be afraid or discouraged?".
It's an incredible principle: "If God has called you to go somewhere, He is already there".
If he has called you to trust him in a sensitive area, He is already there.
If he has called you into a time of suffering or sickness, He is already there.
If he has called you into a period of loneliness, He is already there.
If he has called you to risk something big for His sake, He is already there.
If he has called you into the unknown land of being misunderstood because you are being faithful to Him, He is already there.
If he has called you to move from a zone of safety to a bond of commitment, He is already there.
Wherever He has called you to go, He is already there.
Now, there are no guarantees about what He is up to there! It may be scary or risky or it may be simple and easy.
But, regardless of the outcome, He will never fail or abandon you - He is already there.
And He always will be.
So, where are you being called to go?
