Following the Spirit

Yesterday we talked about the incredible experience of following the Holy Spirit's guidance, a sort of moment by moment spiritual GPS for our lives.

Galatians 5:25 was the key text: "Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives".

To recap, here are the five practicalways I suggested we can obey this verse:

1. The Spirit's leading in SCRIPTURE. Since he inspired the Bible, all of his leading will be consistent with it and will never be in contradiction to the Scripture.

2. Through the WISE COUNSEL of others who are also seeking to be led by the Spirit.

3. Through CIRCUMSTANCES, as God providentially opens and closes doors and orchestrates events in our lives.

4. Through the INNER VOICE of the Spirit. Because the Spirit is a personal being and we are too, we should expect to be able to enjoy actual "conversations" with Him.

5. Through promptings, LEADINGS, and "nudges".

I wish I had been able to spend more time on number 5! One of these days...

And remember the Next Steps prayer for this week: "Holy Spirit, I open myself to you without reservation and I ask you to lead and guide me today, all day".
