One of the greatest things about my job at Next Level Church is that I get to play so many different genres of music. I mean, within the span of a few months, we could do The Fray, Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith, and the Beatles. Pretty varied stuff, but Next Level seems to love it all.
We're in a series right now called House of Blues, and we get to rock out some great blues music every weekend for a while now.
So why do we do this, you might be wondering?
To look cool.
Just kidding. That's not it AT ALL!
We do what we do because we know that church doesn't have to be boring. If Pastor Todd can get across some great spiritual truths and connect it to a song by John Mayer (or whoever), it's a win-win.
Why not use the music that people like to communicate a message that people need?
Will anyone be more open to God's word specifically because we play a B.B. King song this weekend? Maybe, maybe not. But I can tell you this: it's a lot easier to feel like you belong when you realize that religious people can like the Blues too.
