The opening scene of the movie The Social Network is like a car crash you can't help but look at.
It portrays Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg as a college student chatting with his girlfriend in a bar. Or, more accurately, inflicting conversation on his girlfriend.
In rapid fire patter, he talks about one thing after another, all having to do with him. He doesn't listen to a thing she says, barely responding to her and then dismissing her concerns. At the end of the conversation, she breaks up with him but he is not even paying enough attention for that to sink in at first.
It's painful to watch, because we can all relate. We've all had conversations where we weren't listened to or, worse, have had encounters where we were inflicting conversation on someone else.
That's why it is so remarkable that God says this:
"Then when you call, the Lord will answer. 'Yes, I am here', he will quickly reply'" - Isaiah 58:9a
The God who created and now rules the universe will respond to us, quickly, as soon as we call on Him. He'll listen to our pleas, confessions, requests, complaint.
Instant access.
Amazing.
So, do you take enough advantage of that extraordinary fact?
And, as importantly, do you listen back?
