You might have asked yourself at one time or another, Why do we do this random secular music from time to time? It's fun, but what does it have to do with church?
There are a few good answers to that. The first it that when you play a song that people are familiar with, you get that instant connection, and people pay attention to the point the song is making. Sometimes we are proving a positive point, sometimes we are showing an example of the negative side of the coin, but in the end we want to make you think, to engage with the material.
A great example from this last weekend: we did the song "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele. HUGE song right now, everyone has heard it, everyone knows it (and I'm not sure if anyone besides Adele would sing it better than Sarah did). The weekend was all about vengeance, and the song is sung from the perspective of a person who desperately wants revenge, wants to make someone pay for that they did. We illustrated the negative side of vengeance and hopefully people thought about how it's something that applies to all our lives, how the desire for vengeance can ruin us and how we should leave it up for God.
All that to say, we are closing out the series with a bang. I'm excited to say the least. The weekend is all about the people and things we invest in, and the song we are playing shows how all of us have that desire to be invested in to, to have someone that cares about our song. Don't miss it... You know we have been mixing up the genres, and in the HISTORY of Next Level Church, we have never pulled off the genre you will hear this Sunday morning. Can't wait!
