How was Jesus able to lift up those who looked up to him?
Three Thing from Mark chapter 13.
"Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was returning to God..."
1.) He knew where his authority came from.
Jesus knew that while he was on earth his authority was delegated from God the Father in order to accomplish his will. When you know that your power, authority, and status come from God it keeps you from becoming too self-important to lift up those who look up to you. We may not have all of the Father's authority delegated to us, but we must recognize that the power and authority we do have comes ultimately from God.
2.) He knew where he came from.
Jesus authority was grounded in his knowledge of his identity. If you know where you came from then you know who you are. Jesus knew that he had come from heaven and that he was God. You and I may not be God incarnate, but we must know that we are made in the image of God and that we are children of God. When we are secure in ourselves we will have the freedom to lift up those who look up to us.
3.) He knew where he was going.
Jesus knew what mission he was on and what his final destination would be. If you know where you end up it can give you great confidence in the present. We must live with eternity in mind, always on the mission of loving and serving people into God's kingdom. With that perspective we don't get bogged down in our own circumstances and are freed up to lift up those who look up to us.
