"I say to the Lord, 'You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you'" - Psalm 16:2
That's a huge statement - "I have no good apart from you".
Does it mean that nothing else besides God is good? That sunsets and fresh flowers and perfectly charred steaks and little kids and our loved ones are something less than good?
No. It's a matter of perspective.
Everything good comes from God and when we enjoy good things the way God meant for us to enjoy them - giving him thanks and remembering that all that we have comes from him - we're in a spiritual sweet spot.
And when we can trust him to take care of those good things and even say to him "Even if you take them away, I will still trust you", we're demonstrating that our hearts are aligned with his purposes.
The problem is when good things become ultimate things for us. When we put them above God and believe that we are responsible for them and must have them to survive.
So, what do you need to say 'thanks' to God for today? What do you need to let go of?
Bottom line, is there anything in your life that you have elevated to a level of importance higher than God?
Then that's not good! But putting it right is only a step away - one simple conversation with God.
